How to Make a Shower Room        Part 3 of 5
600x300 wall tiles
The 600 x 300 wall tiles were fixed over the Dunlop shower waterproofing base coat and tiled with Dunlop Anti Mould grout.
This contains Microban and you must wear gloves and eye protection when using it.
Wash down kit
I have never used a wash down kit, but I thought I would give this one from Benson Tools tiling range a try and I will never
go back to the bucket and sponge. The kit contains a sponge cleaning grid to allow you to keep the sponge free of the
solids and a pair of rollers for squeezing the water out of the sponge float. The segmented float is provided in the kit.
Croydex mounting kit
The Croydex bar mixer mounting kit is spring loaded so you can adjust the projection to suit the tile thickness.

The Adamsez Penta shower surround continues the silicone free project with rubber backed wall profiles.
These compress to take up grout lines and slight unevenness in any tiles.
The glazing gaskets need lubricating to slip in after fixing.
The adjustment in the wall profiles allows you to get the frame perfectly plumb, but it’s unusually thick (15mm) and the fact that I chased the wall to accommodate the upstand on the tray meant that the profile was at the limit of its adjustment. You have around 20mm adjustment to play with.
It's always a nervous moment when bringing in a large curved door. This one is hinged so I had to locate the bottom hinge on the lug
and then secure the top while I screwed the fixing in place. I really should have had some help but who would take the picture?

MIXER MOUNT

The Croydex Bar Shower Mixer was mounted on the wall using a Croydex Easy Mount kit that comprises two springs and a metal plate. This can be used on any make of bar mixer. The springs hold the threaded tails in tension so they are pulled through as the connections to the mixer are tightened. This automatically gives you the right amount of projection without having to know the tile thickness. My original plan was to mount the mixer off centre so the hose hung nicely down from the riser rail. I could have done this by having the pipework running down each side of a stud and the mixer straddling it. However the springs on the mounting plate do not allow enough clearance either side of a 50mm stud. They are fairly wide and become wider as they are flattened under tension so I had to place the mixer in between the studs. Fortunately the outlet on the bar mixer is to one side so the flexible hose stills loops nicely even if the riser rail is directly above the mixer.

I have used these mounting kits before and I like to use back plate elbows rather than ordinary female iron elbows. The reason is simply that the two elbows can be mounted on a plate to stop them twisting as the connections on the bar mixer are tightened. The plate must not be fixed to the studwork or the wall because it has to move in as the connections are tightened.
