Identifying wood types

Postby zlinky on 17 Sep 2008 22:20

I recentley put a wooden fire surround on Ebay, and it didn't sell. One of the questions I kept getting asked was 'what type of wood is it?'

I'm no expert and wondered if anyone could identify what the wood is: http://www.motion.co.uk/ebay/woodfire2x.jpg

It looks to me as if it is Ash. It is darker than I would have expected for this. The picture is good so hopefully some chippies out there will be able to help. I will try and punt it about a bit.

It is a nice looking fire surround. I have been told that Ebay is quiet on the home improvement side at the moment.

Thanks Roger, I've had a look at some reference pictures of wood types now and I think Ash is the most likely candidate.

And on the subject of Ebay being slow, I put a beautiful old Edwardian bathroom door up for auction and only got £12 for it.
